The Nordic Games were the first iteration of winter Olympic games. Viktor Gustaf Balck first organized the Nordic Games in Sweden in 1901. This international mult-sport event that was designated specifically for winter sports was thereafter held regularly until 1926. In the meantime, Balck was rallying to have winter sports (starting with figure skating) included in the Olympic sport roster. He was unsuccessful until 1908, when four figure skating events were included in the 1908 Summer Olympics in London.
If you plan on attending the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, it is good to know when and how you can book your hotel. This is very important so that you can find a place to stay that doesn’t result in you driving or using public for a long period of time in order to get to the events you have tickets for. Some individuals make this mistake because they think that there are enough hotel rooms available when a huge event such as the Olympics is going on. The truth is that there are a lot of hotel rooms available, but they fill up quickly. Thousands upon thousands from around the world attend Olympic events, so you have to be on your toes.

The Olympic Games are now less than a month away, as is the start of the football tournament which will be held in various cities around China. Apart from the World Cup, the Olympic tournament provides the most useful indication of the strength and potential of many national teams coming into the next 2 World Cups, in this case, 2010 and 2014 in South Africa and Brazil respectively. The Olympic tournament has a rich history, being the first major international tournament preceding even the World Cup. In fact, it was the success of this tournament that propelled FIFA to organise a world tournament of its own, and the rest, as they say, is history.
True success doesn’t come from privilege. It comes from spirit. Bonnie St. John is a perfect example of this. If you believe the stereotypes of the world are true, you’d have a hard time believing how much success Bonnie has seen in her life as an Olympic skier. When life knocks her down, she gets right back up.
Bonnie St. John grew up a poor black girl from a broken home in San Diego. To make matters worse, she only had one leg. The other was amputated when she was only five years old. She had no money and no snow, but she wanted to be a skier. To her advantage, her mother encouraged this crazy dream.
Athletics governing body the IAAF has
hit back at claims from South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius
that it does not respect disabled athletes.
High-profile trio Tyson Gay, Jeremy
Wariner and double amputee Oscar Pistorius all suffered in the
rain at Sunday’s IAAF British Grand Prix.
Olympic and world
champion Jeremy Wariner stumbled out of the IAAF Grand Prix
meeting on Sunday when he failed to race in the men’s 400
metres, losing his footing as he came out of the blocks.

The exercise Friday, involving more than 800 police officers and 27 vessels, was part of the Chinese government’s security preparations for next year’s Olympics.
