Nuggets win in Billups' return to Denver (AP)

The hometown kid had quite the homecoming — with a little help from Carmelo Anthony. Chauncey Billups made a triumphant return to the Nuggets with 15 points, Anthony scored 28 and Denver beat the Dallas Mavericks 108-105 on Friday night. Billups also had three assists and three steals, including two down the stretch.

McAlister to have season-ending knee surgery

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Chris McAlister will have season-ending surgery on his damaged right knee and will be placed on injured reserve.

McAlister has posterior cruciate ligament damage and cartilage issues. The former Pro Bowl defensive back had gone to Canada and Florida to visit specialists for a second opinion, but decided not to risk further damage to his knee.

Parrish debuts with hat trick, Stars win (AP)

Mark Parrish had his sixth career hat trick in his Dallas debut and the Stars beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 on Friday night. Parrish, who signed a one-year deal with Dallas on Wednesday, had two power-play goals and a breakaway tally in the first 26 minutes of play. Fabian Brunnstrom and Brad Richards also scored for the Stars.

Orlovsky may need surgery; Culpepper to start?

Detroit Lions starting quarterback Dan Orlovsky says he may need thumb surgery for two fractures and a torn ligament.

Orlovsky hopes to return later in the season, and coach Rod Marinelli won't say which of Detroit's remaining quarterbacks will start against Jacksonville on Sunday.

Peterson back with Jags; playing status unclear

Linebacker Mike Peterson was back with the Jaguars after being sent home and not practicing for two straight days.

The team's leading tackler and emotional leader met with coach Jack Del Rio on Friday morning and rejoined the team for meetings and practice.

Peterson planned to address the situation later in the day.
